“Music for the head, the heart, the ass and the feet”

NPR’S BOB BOILEN

Anna Meredith is a composer, producer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music. Her sound is frequently described as ‘uncategorisable’ and ‘genre-defying’ and straddles the worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, soundtracks, electronica, installations and experimental rock.

Her CV includes being Composer in Residence at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, commissions for the First and Last night of the BBC Proms and countless performances and commissions with leading orchestras and ensembles across the globe. She has been awarded an MBE for Services to Music, Honorary Doctorates from Napier and Coventry Universities and Fellowships from the Royal College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music.

Notable releases include Varmints (SAY Award winner); FIBS (shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and named Electronic Sound’s Album of the Year); ANNO (featuring Anna’s music and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons - the performance of which includes surround sound and visuals by Eleanor Meredith); Bumps Per Minute (the soundtrack to her installation project for dodgems); NUC (an album of string quartet works performed by the Ligeti Quartet listed as one of the Guardian’s Ten Best Contemporary Albums of 2023).

The Anna Meredith band live show has been described as ‘sheer exhilaration’ by the New York Times, and as ‘a stormy, ecstatic, endlessly danceable thrill to behold…’ by NPR’s Bob Boilen. They have collaborated with multiple orchestras to perform arrangements of Anna’s material for band and orchestra.

Her installation pieces include interactive works for dodgems, lifts, sleep pods and a zamboni ice clearing machine. Other recent projects include Five Telegrams (a 22-minute large-scale orchestral piece written in collaboration with Tony Award-winning visuals company 59 Productions); HandsFree and Connect It (two body percussion pieces written with choreographer David Ogle) which reached half of all primary school aged children in the UK).

Now established as a sought-after composer for film & TV, Anna has written original scores for Eighth Grade (dir. Bo Burnham, A24), Living With Yourself (dir. Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, Netflix), HELP (dir. Mark Munden, Channel 4), the BIFA-nominated The End We Start From (dir. Mahalia Belo, Paramount), TUESDAY (dir. Daina O. Pusic, A24) and WICKER (dir. Eleanor Wilson & Alex Huston-Fischer, Black Bear).

Her third studio album DARLING is out on 12 February 2027 via Mercury KX.
